Chad closes borders with Sudan to stop rebel infiltration - paper

Chad has resolved to close its borders to prevent infiltration of armed groups [presumably the SLM/A, Sudan Liberation Movement/Army] in Karnawi and Jabal Marrah [both in Western Darfur State, western Sudan] from neighbouring Chad.

According to well-informed sources from the mechanism for entrenching security and state authority in Darfur, this decision was reached during the visit of the [Sudanese] minister of internal affairs to Chad last week.

During the visit, the Chadian president agreed to station his forces on the borders to implement the security agreement on Sudanese-Chadian borders, ratified by the two countries.

A member of the security mechanism, Uthman Muhammad Yusuf, said that regular forces had already started large-scale search missions in the past two days in the regions of Karnawi and Jabal Marrah, where armed rebels are concentrated.
